DEAD SEASCROLLS
For the first time in Los Angeles and the largest exhibit of its kind ever shown outside of Israel, the Dead Sea Scrolls are now on display at the California Science Center, featuring over 600 ancient artifacts. Visitors can learn the history of these ancient manuscripts that were hidden in caves in the modern-day West Bank 2000 years ago to safeguard them from advancing Roman troops and were not discovered until 1947. The scrolls were written over hundreds of years and with multimedia exhibits, guests can explore the science used to date and decipher these ancient manuscripts. Together with the Dead Sea Scrolls, there’s a three-ton stone from Jerusalem’s Western Wall, the only remains of the Jewish temple that was destroyed by the invading Romans in the year 70 as well as various items from the early Roman period. The California Science Center is open daily from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and admission is free.

FIESTA BROADWAY
You don’t have to wait until May to celebrate the largest Cinco de Mayo celebration in the world. Though ostensibly celebrating the Fifth of May, the event traditionally takes place on the last Sunday of April. Covering 27 square blocks in downtown Los Angeles running along Broadway from 4th Street in the south to the three block long Grand Park to the north, this annual street party is attended by thousands of Angelinos coming out to celebrate the Latino culture with traditional food, live music, crafts and, of course, dancing. There are parking lots available outside the street closure area, but taking the Metro is recommended. April 26th from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm.

LONG BEACH GRAND PRIX
Every year over 200,000 fans descend on Long Beach, California for the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, the longest running major street race in North America. The three days of racing include the Indy Car Series, Indy Lights, the Team Drift Challenge, and a Celebrity/Pro Race, so there is constant racing on the course for all three days. While speeds of these Formula E cars are not as intense as the Formula1 series, they are far faster than most passenger vehicles. The Long Beach Grand Prix is free to attend, but special paddock passes are available for $50 and $25 for children ages 5-16.
